5 Tips for Wedding Planning
Wedding planning sucks.
well, it can. But it doesn’t have to!
We’re not just here to make your day easier for your pet, we’re here to make the day easier for you. Here are 5 tips we have from planning our own wedding that we hope help you plan yours:
Be 100%, unapologetically YOU.
The rumours were true. There are a few times in your life where you receive an infinite amount of opinions and judgements. One of them is babies, and another is weddings. If we received $1 for every opinion received when planning our wedding, we would be retired right now. Remember that the only opinion on anything wedding related comes down to you and your partner.
You guys want a taco bar instead of a sit down meal? You do you!
You guys want to get married at the drive-in? Hell yea, you do you!
You guys want to wear something in a bold colour? You do you!
You get the point. What we’re really trying to say is that there is nothing more heart warming and memorable than a wedding that shows the characters of the couple. Don’t fall victim to pressure and remember this is YOUR DAY. YOUR DAY = YOUR DECISIONS!Don’t forget the why.
Planning a wedding is a lot and can be all consuming. If you get lost in the madness and realize you just want to get it over with take a step back and remember the why.
Why you said yes.
Why you fell in love with your partner.
Why you chose to spend your forever with them.
Remember that the wedding planning stage is temporary and there IS a light at the end of the tunnel.Prepare for rejection.
You invited 50, but 15 declined. It’s OKAY! Rejection can be difficult for many to deal with, but you need to understand it will happen. It could even be just 1, but you will inevitably receive a rejection. This doesn’t mean the person doesn’t like you or that your relationship is damaged. There could be 1,000,000+ different reasons for their decline (location, transportation, babysitting, etc). Hopefully if you do have some declines you receive them in time that you can maybe invite someone else, or just enjoy that you may save a bit of $.Provide detailed instructions on how to get to your venue for your guests.
We suggest this for a few reasons.
1) Not everyone is tech savvy and you should not assume everyone knows how to use Google Maps. Chances are you have a few older people attending your wedding and it would be a kind gesture towards those who may not be tech savvy to have written directions available. 2) While rare, there can be occasional mistakes with online maps or outdated directions. It’s better to be safe and you will feel relief knowing you did everything in your power to ensure your guests were well equipped.Be realistic with your time frame and start early.
Weddings basically took a hiatus for two years during the COVID-19 pandemic so there’s not just all the newly engaged couples looking to get married, but there’s also a huge backlog of weddings looking to finally happen. Some of your preferred vendors may have a select number of dates left within a year due to filling that backlog so be realistic on your wedding date choice and make sure you are giving enough time to yourself to plan the wedding and to find the right vendors to make your day the best day.
The good news is, even if the wedding planning is difficult, you know you will end up married to your partner and that’s really all that matters in the end.
