3 Things to Consider Before Hiring a Dog Attendant

So you want your furry friend at your wedding…

I don’t blame you! Our furry companions are truly the best! But let’s make sure it makes the most sense for you and your pet.

Here are some things to consider:

  1. Know your pet.

Does your pet enjoy people? What about a lot of people? What about new people? Do they have little energy? Do they have lots of energy?

These are just a few questions you need to ask yourself to ensure having your pet at your wedding/event makes the most sense for them. Nobody wants to cause stress to their pets, and neither do we. If your friend does not do well around new people, or lots of people then perhaps having them at your wedding is not the best idea. That doesn’t mean they need to be left out, but perhaps the option for you is to have them come for some intimate photos with you and your partner rather than being around all of your guests. Alternatively, perhaps your pet loves all people, but maybe they have little energy. The chaos of lots of people and the excitement could really drain their battery then we can tell that that pet should get lots of breaks for rest. As you can see, you really need to consider your pets personality so you can decide how to best include them in your day. If you need help figuring out what may best, we are here to help!

  2. Know your venue.

Not all venues are created equally. Does your venue have outdoor space? Does your venue have no outdoor space? Does your venue even allow pets?

It’s always best when considering having your furry friend at your wedding to first start with your venue. Reach out to them and express your wish to have your pet there and your draft plan for taking care of them on their property and see what they will allow. Perhaps they don’t allow pets at all, perhaps they’ve never come across this before. Either way, they will let you know what you can and can’t do.

Let’s say they are happy for you to bring your pet, you also need to consider the space itself. Is there adequate outdoor space for relief breaks and decompression breaks? If there isn’t, does it make sense to have them there the entire time or just for photos?

Most importantly, compare the venue’s contract with the contract of who you are considering watching your pet. Find out how possible damages will be handled. Of course no one expects anything bad to happen, but it’s better safe than sorry!

  3. Know your self.

One of the most important aspects before hiring a pet attendant (after knowing if your venue will allow it) is knowing exactly what you want out of having your pet there.

You need to consider all aspects of your special day and exactly how you want your pet included. Do you want them there for the entire festivities? Do you want them just in photos? Do you want them walking down the aisle? Will your pet have any special duties on the day of? These are just a few questions you and your partner need to consider so that you can accurately describe your wants and needs with a possible attendant. Of course if you aren’t entirely sure where to start we are here to help, but it is always nice to have an idea of your vision.

These three things to consider are a good start to planning your day with your furry friend.
